The fact that over 18 billion pounds of plastic enter our precious oceans each year is incredibly fucked up. Our oceans have become vulnerable to the now deadly human touch, as aquatic wildlife continues to die off. Ironically, the oceans still need the human touch in order to not only reverse damage, but to remain healthy and bio-diverse.
There are 25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean. Of that, 269,000 tons float on the surface, while some four billion plastic microfibers per square kilometer litter the deep sea. This is a big fucking problem, because plastics cause more than 80% of the negative effects on animals associated with ocean trash. Over 100,000 marine animals die every year from plastic entanglement and ingestion. It’s estimated that by the year 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish (by weight). Fuck that.
Our OCEANS line stays stocked year round in our efforts to support Oceana, the organization making the biggest impact on the global scale at protecting our oceans. Oceana seeks to make our oceans more bio-diverse and abundant by winning policy victories in the countries that govern much of the world’s marine life. Grassroots clean up organizations do great work, but an organization that is holding large businesses accountable that are responsible for the bullshit going into our oceans is where we're directing our contributions for a sustainable long term impact.
Styles, colors, and designs will vary throughout the year.
