Now Offering Carbon Neutral Shipping — Here's How.

We will be the first to acknowledge that, like all businesses, we consume resources and therefore leave a carbon footprint behind in our wake. And unless you live totally off the grid (which would prohibit you from being here reading this right now), you as an individual also consume resources and produce a carbon footprint.

Yes, it’s true that over 70% of global emissions can be traced back to just 100 fossil fuel companies, but we are all the consumers who actually burn and create demand for the fossil fuels that these companies provide. So although it’s not all on us, it is partly on us to make better decisions.

This is why we, the GTFO team, are striving to make the right choice as easy as possible.

The problem with shipping.

When you order products online, they often travel quite the distance to get to you. Packages and goods are moved those long distances using something called heavy duty transportation, which includes freight trucking, shipping, and aviation. Heavy duty transportation accounts for approximately 13% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

This is precisely why we don’t accept returns. GTFO is not trying to be perfect (that would be impossible), but we are trying to be better. It’s inevitable we consume resources, but we are striving to reduce our footprint.

We’re excited to announce that we have introduced a further measure reduce our net footprint: carbon offsets for your order shipments

When you place your order, you will be given the option at checkout to make your shipping carbon neutral. We want to make it as easy as possible to make the right choice. It’s as simple as checking “duh!” and paying a very small add-on fee, then we handle the rest! Carbon neutral shipping unlocked.

Wait, how do these carbon offsets even work?

When you check out, your location is approximated and our carbon offset partner estimates the carbon emissions associated with shipping your order from us to you. You are then presented with a small fee that in essence covers the cost to remove that same amount of carbon from the atmosphere. This is why it’s called an “offset”— we’re not preventing your shipment from producing emissions, but rather we are offsetting those emissions by removing them elsewhere, thereby resulting in net zero shipping.

The offset you buy helps fund projects that reduce global net greenhouse gas emissions. Sometimes the project prevents emissions from entering the atmosphere, such as building retrofits for improved energy efficiency or expanding renewable energy sources. Other times, the project actually sequesters (or removes) carbon from the atmosphere, as is the case with forest restoration projects.

To see specifically where your offset purchase is going, click the link that says “Carbon Offset Details”— there you can find out where exactly your money is going, what the project is, and how many pounds of carbon are being offset.

Time to get down with the carbon neutrality! And with GTFO, it’s as easy as saying “duh!”
